Ahh Pink Floyd, always with your sage wisdom…
If you’re one to dabble with WSJTX and or FT4/8 in general, you’ve probably quickly determined the need for your clock to be accurate. Despite how many times you ask your windows machine to synchronize with NIST, you always end up just about a second off when you check http://time.is.
FC, what do?
There are a few solutions out there that no one seems to really talk about, but here we are… talking about them:
Dimension4 is a nice little piece of kit with some pretty graphs that allows you to accurately synchronize your clock.
Meinberg also has a package that runs as a service and will query quite regularly. (no pretty graphics like D4 though!)
NEMATime2 is what I use on the getac as it has a GPS chipset built in. (is not freeware, but totally worth it, imho. I believe it also has the provisions to act as an NTP server for your friends when you’re out in the field as well!
That’s all for now, tune in next time where we’ll talk about something…. I’m sure.
