Mobile Broadband Networking woes!

Posted on June 5, 2021June 5, 2021 By K0WTF

The Getac V200 I recently acquired happened to have a Mobile Broadband card in it! With that in mind, I ordered a sim adapter set and slapped a google fi sim in the sim card slot and….

nothing really happened.

Did some research, did some more research, did EVEN MORE RESEARCH and finally figured out that it has a Sierra Wireless MC7750, which is a fairly capable little card, as long as you use Verizon. Evidently it lacks the additional bands to talk to other cell networks, so it’s pretty stuck at the moment.

THE GOOD NEWS: A MC7354 seems to be a pretty great match, band wise and is fairly inexpensive!

Google Fi is an MVNO for T-Mobile (and US Cellular…) Chart from here

I’ll keep ya’ll posted on how that goes. Chart is from this site which compares cards to carriers with regards to what bands they’re compatible with.
